3D Modelling

Oh how I am loving it! I’ve recently been learning how to use Autodesk 3DS Max through this book I brought from Amazon which I most certainly recommend if you’re interested in 3D modelling for games [click]. The interface is quite a shocker to grasp at the beginning, so many different buttons, right click menus and keyboard short cuts but once you start doing the basics it all falls into place.

So far all I have been modelling is the stuff from the book and each chapter is about an hour a piece so it takes some time to get through things (there are a lot of steps to just creating a simple object like a bowl or a phone for example). A few nights ago though I decided to make something on my own, nothing spectacular just a box but I took the pictures for the UVW mapping myself and skewed them to the right proportions in Photoshop; then I built a 3D replica of my PG Tips box. Hah!

I think it came out quite well if I do say so myself, it’s very low poly so none of the extruding details are there such as the overlap of the lid or places where the folds come together but other than that it looks pretty much the same as in real life.
